The bentwood technique perfected by Michael Thonet was one of the sources of inspiration for Marcel Breuer's experiments with bent tubular steel. This idea led to the four-part set of tables B 9.
The four small tables can be used in a variety of ways - as a side table in seating arrangements, as a practical shelf or as the perfect place for a vase of fresh flowers. After use they can be slid under each other to save space.
The special feature of this programme is its functional simplicity - the set tables consist only of chrome-plated, bent tubular steel and rectangular tops.
Breuer originally designed the side table for the canteen of the Dessau Bauhaus building. B 9' was also used in the student apartments and the master houses of Walter Gropius.
