When a Dane thinks of a rocking chair, he most likely thinks of this one from the Danish label Fredericia. This specimen came on the market already in 1944 and has been rocking through the living rooms of Danes and friends of their legendary design ever since.
The design, which can be described as Scandinavian through and through, was created by Hans J. Wegner, who simply named the rocking chair 'J16'. Particularly apparent in his design are the runners, which are kept beautifully short at the front and give the chair a timeless look. And it doesn't just look nice, the points of freedom of movement and ergonomics were a priority for Wegner in his design.
What else catches the eye is the specially designed seat, which has been made from a comfortable and handsome cord weave.
This is a rocking chair like I've always been looking for, my dears: high quality, timeless and beautifully designed. I would love to be rocked in this one. Preferably for life.
