The Pao lamp that I discovered at 'Hay' looks like a mushroom.
The lamp collection is an exciting collaboration between 'Hay' and Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. Named after the soft, luminous shape of traditional Mongolian Pao tents, 'Pao' draws on Fukasawa's aesthetic of beautiful simplicity to create an everyday object that draws on the design values of the natural world. By keeping the aesthetic modest and simple, he brings the design into harmony with its surroundings.
For the Pao table lamp, Naoto Fukasawa has devised a way to hide the custom LED light source from the viewer's gaze by embedding it in the shade to give the lamp a clean, unbroken visual identity. Both the base and shade are made of opal glass, offering functionality and a deliberately simple design that makes them suitable for a variety of spaces and uses in both residential and commercial environments.
