The floor lamp Mantis was designed by Bernard Schottlander, a German-British designer and sculptor, in 1951. The curved shape of the reflector shade in the field of tension between symmetry and asymmetry, combined with the gracefully balanced frame, gives the lamp its typical appearance.
The floor lamp of the Mantis series is a feast for the eyes of quite large dimensions. Its sculptural form is not only beautiful to look at, but also highly functional. The lamp can be rotated 360 degrees around its foot and the angle of the arm can be adjusted in five steps by changing the counterweight.
What I particularly like about the lamps is the contrast between the very filigree frame and the larger lampshade, which balances lanky on the lower part. Almost like a mobile, but a luminous one.
A beautiful series, which was reissued by the French company DCW Éditions.
