Mexican artist Berenice Hernandez's painting Mujer y Calor 02 is immersed in the stifling heat of summer, illuminating the connection between the human form and the local environment. A single female figure illustrates how we change our body language and posture when confronted with extreme conditions. The composition is cooled by a color palette of deep blue and earthy beige. Combining linoleum engraving and digital technology, texture and form are united in this striking composition.
Berenice Hernandez's studio is situated between the cool mountains and stifling desert heat of Monterrey in northern Mexico. She draws inspiration from her surroundings to create artwork with vibrancy and color. With a background in art direction and graphic design, she combines her knowledge with themes from her Mexican heritage. Botany is at the heart of her work, brought to life through a mixture of illustration, engraving, painting and textile techniques. The results are abstracted, bold plants and flowers presented with a graphic touch.
