The Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld designed the Crate Collection in 1934 to make use of surplus wooden transport crates. In a collaboration between Rietveld Originals and HAY, the Crate Collection has been relaunched. The Crate Lounge Sofa has been produced with respect for the original design and features the same precisely balanced proportions and transparent construction to minimize production costs and optimize the assembly process. The sofa is characterized by low proportions with a gently sloping backrest and a seat with supportive armrests. Its simplicity and spatial design reflect the designer's architectural principles - it offers functionality and comfort without absorbing space. The Crate Lounge Sofa is made of solid pine wood and finished with a water-based lacquer in various color options. It is suitable for a variety of outdoor areas and can be complemented with optional seat cushions in selected textiles for added comfort.
