Everything that Sicilian designer and blacksmith Antonino Sciortino creates was originally intended for his own home. This also applies to the addition to his "Metal Sculptures" collection: an umbrella stand called Ella. "Ella is simply the last part of Umbrella - and I liked the sound of the name," says Antonino Sciortino with a laugh.
As usual, Ella's design is clear and minimalist - in keeping with the Bauhaus principle of "form follows function", which Sciortino consistently follows. A round container with three compartments, a removable drip tray and a rubber mat for easy cleaning - that's all it takes. Made from Sciortino's preferred material, iron, and brushed black by hand, Ella is a functional object that the designer likes to see in a warm living environment.
