Girard Bird from Vitra

❤️ YOUR GIFT ❤️ Vitra Toolbox with a Vitra purchase >500 CHF

This bird looks a bit like an animal study. In fact, it is the result of some experimentation:

In the mid-1940s, designer Alexander Girard experimented with a series of abstract sculptures made of glass, foam rubber, corrugated cardboard, driftwood, plywood and solid wood, - including a bird figure carved by hand from apple wood.

The original figurine is now part of the Girard Archive in the Vitra Design Museum. In close collaboration with the Girard family, 'Vitra' has brought it back to life.

With a minimum of typical elements, the 'Girard Bird' is unmistakably a bird. The archaic-looking figure, made of solid maple wood from France, can be stood on its foot or on its tail.
