Cult: The Canvas Chair

One of my new favourite pieces of furniture is the 'Canvas Chair', an example of Børge Mogensen's talent for functional design with an emphasis on simple, structural forms that capture the essence of an idea. There is nothing to add or subtract here.

Based on his preference for natural materials, Mogensen used canvas as seat and backrest, suspended between round pieces of wood. Together with his trademark: the use of horizontal and vertical lines for the frame. The result is a contrast and a great sense of balance.

Although this piece of seating furniture was designed in 1970 as a counterpart to the very striking furniture of the sixties, the 'Canvas Chair' is even more important today because of its earthy informality and honest materials. It has an unvarnished authenticity that will still be attractive in 2020.

The high-quality European oak and linen canvas is available in both black and natural colours.

This seating furniture was one of the last pieces designed by Mogensen before his early death in 1972. To this day it has remained a statement piece with a strong presence.
