Charles and Ray Eames spent many years experimenting with new methods of adapting three-dimensionally shaped plywood to the shape of the human body in the best possible way. With the Plywood Group chairs, they succeeded in doing so in a form that is still contemporary today and has allowed the designs to mature into classics. They also combined chair tops with different bases for the Plywood Group. The compact armchairs offer good seating comfort thanks to their pleasantly shaped plywood shells and the slightly flexible backrest - even in the versions without seat cushions.
The delicate DCM (Dining Chair Metal) chairs from the Plywood Group are the result of Charles and Ray Eames' early experiments with three-dimensionally shaped plywood.
