Roland Baines is still a child when he meets the person who will throw his life off course at boarding school in 1958: piano teacher Miriam Cornell. Roland is a young father when his German wife Alissa leaves him and their four-month-old baby. It is 1986, and while the world worries about Chernobyl, Roland begins to search for answers about his origins, his restless life, and everything that drove Alissa away from him.
